the truth is rarely pure and never simple.

The Great Gatsby: I finally got to watch this movie and after all the hype, I was very iffy about even going to watch it but I must admit I actually really loved it. I normally hate books turned into movies as pretentious as that is but I thought this was a great attempt at capturing the essence of the book and I particularly thought Gatsby was portrayed quite well. Although I never pictured the story to be as glitz and glam as it was in the movie, the cinematography was beautiful. The book and storyline is simple, its about the riches, wealth and passion of young people in the 1920s - living by the moment and living carelessly, thoughtlessly. I think many didn’t enjoy it because perhaps it didn’t end the way they wanted it to end, or questioned the motives or characters, particularly Daisy. But I don’t think you’re suppose to love the motives of the characters… I think you’re suppose to hate the one you think you’re suppose to like. The book is worth a read before the film. F. Scott Fitzgerald is one of my favorite authors and the lines from his books are so simple and beautiful. If you enjoy it, I would recommend the Beautiful and the Damned as well. xo

“It eluded us then, but that’s no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther… And then one fine morning—
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”

Never been one for suiting up other than at work but I must say these sets are pretty darn cute. They definitely polish up a look and when they come in floral prints and bright colors, it’s sure screams fun rather than work! xo

I don’t usually post up home decor stuff but this is such a dream, I couldn’t help it. I came across this and it’s exactly what I want! A beach-y themed bathroom in cool shades of blue and of a course, topped with a chandler to add a touch of glam. Bah.. must get back to the ocean soon… ocean withdrawal.. xo

Wax Wings by Joshua Radin is out and it is a beautiful, beautiful album. He has got to be one of the most soothing and romantic singer/songwriters out there right now. I’ve posted a song called In Her Eyes for you, I hope you like it as much as I do. xo

Crochet is a definite summer staple! It’s cool, girly, but not over-the-top. When the first pay cheque comes in, it’s about time I go shop! xo

Easy Breezy: I’m sure you all can relate when I say that sometimes wearing fashionable clothes is just so darn uncomfortable! I mean tailored blazers, skinny trousers, and bandage dresses are not exactly something I desire to wear for 12 hours a day but is required when you want to be trendy. Well, lately, I’ve been noticing that one can look really splendid while wearing clothes that are fashionable but also comfortable. For example, loose trousers with an elastic waist band and draw strings in velour, silk shorts, loose breezy tops and dresses and flowy cardigans! They can be fashionable and eye-catching in unique prints but also comfortable given the right material. Especially with summer just around the corner, who wants to be sweating bullets in stretchy tube tops and leather leggings? xo

Raspberry Rose Souffle: I don’t normally post up recipes (although I do like to bake, I tend to go for the simple recipes and shy away from complicated ones!) but this souffle is just too beautiful not to share. I’ve never attempted a souffle and something about it scares me a little! However, with presentation like this, maybe it’s time to give it a go. What do you think? See recipe here. Lovely! xo

I watched a movie called See Girl Run last night (click title for the trailer) and it was okay but nothing special in my opinion. It was a movie on relationships which was just rather depressing and typical. The highlight of the movie, however, was at the end when they played a song that I fell in love with called Donkey by Ola Podrida. I’ve posted it above for y’all. I hope you find it to be of taste. xo

Bleak Situation for California’s Otters: It’s easy to look at these creatures and smile because they are very cute animals. It’s also easy to go about our day without much consideration for the wildlife. However, I just want to raise the issues regarding the plight of these creatures - not to make your day crappy or anything, but quite the opposite: to raise awareness and show that there is hope for the wildlife. Currently, areas in California, off the coast of the Pacific Oceans, are seeing hundreds of otters wash up on shore dead due to toxins and pollution in the oceans. Although otters thrive in lakes and rivers, these habitats are now which are now filled with human sewage and fertilizers causing a “superbloom” of algae and sludge that are literally fluorescent green in color. Many of the shellfish are affected by this pollution and as the otters’ main diet, this is what’s causing these unfortunate deaths. What is strange is that Toxoplasma, a common parasites found in domestic cats that causes toxoplasmosis disease have been found in the brain tissue of many dead otters. The Toxoplasma eggs are shed in the feces of infected animals. This parasite getting into the Pacific Ocean because of human activity and the rainwater containing it are carried downstream along with other water pollutants into rivers and streams ending up in shellfish such as clams and mussels. Estimates of 60-70% of Californian male otters carry the parasite. This is a huge issue and a cry to us to pay more attention to the health of the oceans and coasts. Often research and regulations are neglected in these areas. Eventually, these types of diseases could start affecting people too as they could easily mutate and already, there have been some close calls. More attention must be paid to investigate these wildlife-health patterns that are affecting not only animals but humans and our own well-being. Some of these things can be prevented and solutions can be created if we raise awareness and make a point to local governments to start paying attention to these harmful issues. It all starts with us, right here, right now. For more click here. xo
